If you want to elope in Norway and explore as many epic places as possible in one day, you should know: it is possible! Why would you compromise on some good experiences on your elopement day anyway? Emily and Chris, a beautiful couple from Canada, decided to have their elopement ceremony in Sommarøy (a tiny island outside of Tromsø). And to make their adventures even more memorable – they wraped up their day on Senja island! Keep reading if you want to learn more about this beautiful elopement in Sommarøy and Senja.
Getting ready and first look in Sommarøy area
Bride and groom rented a cozy apartment at Buvik Sea Lodge. Here they were getting ready together until it was time to get the wedding attire on. Then Chris headed to the pier outside the lodge where he waited for his bride. Their first look was romantic and touching, and only gulls (and the photographer) witnessed this lovely moment.
On our way to Sommarøy island, we stopped at a couple locations for some quick photos. Bride and groom even had their first dance in the middle of the road here! After all, when the road is as empty as it was there, why not to use it for some fun moments?
Sommarøy is a beautiful arctic island featuring white beaches, turquoise sea and mountains. And the best part about it: there is only about 300 people living here! Meaning this is more or less a perfect place for a sweet and laid-back elopement.
Elopement in Sommarøy and Senja islands
In Sommarøy we found a cozy tiny beach where Emily and Chris decided to have their elopement ceremony. After reading their vows and exchanging the rings, they wrote a message in the sand and picked some shells as a souvenirs. And then it was time to go on some new adventures!
The fastest way to get from Sommarøy island to Senja island (and continue the elopement celebration) is to take a ferry. But in summertime ferry queues can be crazy, so we arrived early, placed our cars in the line and settled down in a flower field for a picnic and chill.
The ferry tour took about one hour, and it was a nice experience itself. Seing the mountains and surrounding islands from the sea perspective is quite different from on-the-ground-exploring. When we arrived to Senja, the weather was different. Instead of sunrays we got clouds and some moody fog. But bride and groom thought it was really fun to experience a little bit of everything throughout their elopement day on Sommarøy and Senja!
Enjoying midnight sun at the end of the elopement day
We saved the best location till the very end of the elopement day, and we really hoped the midnight sun would show! Wrapped in golden-peach rays of the low midnight sun, the place is a pure magic. Here you can settle down and daydream, stay connected to each other, all the while enjoying some gorgreous views and planning your future together.
The funniest way to wrap up your elopement day is to do something crazy together which you’ll remember forever. One of the most popular activities is to dip the toes in the arctic water while wearing the wedding attire. You might think “what’s the big deal?”, but believe me: the water is really cold regardless the season. Look how many fun expressions Emily and Chris had when they got the first touch! These are the memories for a lifetime!
