If you’re dreaming about eloping in Norway and want to experience more than just one stunning location – good news: you don’t have to choose. This elopement in Sommarøy and Senja proves you can pack a full day with breathtaking views, heartfelt moments, and unforgettable memories. Emily and Chris, a beautiful couple from Canada, started their day in the peaceful island village of Sommarøy and ended it among the wild landscapes of Senja. Two islands. One magical day.

Getting ready by the sea in Sommarøy
Emily and Chris stayed at Buvik Sea Lodge, a cozy apartment with views that instantly put you in a relaxed mood. They got ready together in the soft morning light until it was time to put on their wedding attire. Then Chris stepped out to wait on the pier, where they shared their first look – just the two of them, with only seagulls (and me, the photographer) as witnesses. Quiet, personal, and incredibly touching. On our way to the ceremony location, we stopped at a few scenic spots for photos. At one point, they even had their first dance in the middle of the road – because when the roads are empty and the light is beautiful, why not?

A dreamy elopement ceremony on a beach in Sommarøy
Sommarøy is a tiny Arctic island just outside of Tromsø, known for its white beaches, turquoise water, and relaxed pace of life. With only around 300 residents, it’s a hidden gem for those looking for an intimate and peaceful elopement in Northern Norway.
Emily and Chris chose a quiet beach for their ceremony. After reading their vows and exchanging rings, they wrote a message in the sand and picked up seashells as keepsakes. No time pressure. No audience. Just love and laughter under the open sky.

Ferry to Senja – and a change of scenery
To continue their adventure, we took the ferry from Sommarøy to Senja – Norway’s second-largest island and one of the most scenic places in the north. In summer, the ferry lines can get long, so we arrived early and had a laid-back picnic in a nearby flower field while waiting. It turned out to be one of those spontaneous moments that added so much personality to the day.
The ferry ride itself takes about an hour, and it’s honestly worth it for the views alone. Seeing the coastline, scattered islands, and rugged mountains from the water is something else.
When we arrived in Senja, the weather had changed. The sun was gone, replaced by soft mist and moody clouds, and then fog – which turned out to be a perfect contrast to the earlier beach ceremony. Emily and Chris loved that they got to experience two totally different moods in one day.

What does it cost to elope in Norway?
Chasing the midnight sun in Senja
We saved the best location for last. As the evening turned into night, the midnight sun dipped low over the landscape, casting warm golden tones over the sea and mountains. It was the perfect spot to slow down, soak in the moment, and let the whole day sink in.
There’s something magical about being outside at midnight in full daylight – especially when you’re standing next to the person you just married.

A cold dip and a warm memory
One of the most fun (and slightly wild) ways to end your elopement day in Norway? Step into the freezing Arctic water in your wedding clothes. Emily and Chris were totally up for it – and their reactions when the cold hit were priceless. These are the kinds of moments you’ll never forget, and they make the photo gallery much more fun to look back on.
